Manufactured in late 1972 as a U.S specification 2.7L carburettor three speed automatic and sold in the west coast of the U.S. Standard specifications included air conditioning, tinted glass, radio and leather interior. At some unknown time, it was fully converted to 5 speed manual with a new engine, by the leading west coast SM specialist. It was also painted in a non-standard white & cream two tone colour scheme. It then did a relatively small amount of driving before having a minor front end accident, being cheaply repaired and after wearing out the clutch put up for sale. It was sold with a starting problem and a failed hydraulic pump. It was bought off e-bay and taken to a N.Y. SM specialist who fitted a new clutch & did running repairs to make it drivable. It was then imported to the U.K. Driving the car on its arrival showed it to be in basically good condition, with a sound engine and a perfect gearbox. Detailed inspection showed no rusting. It was then decided to repair the car up to rally capable standards and enter it into a serious event. The interior seats were removed, and various other interior parts so as to lighten the car. The electric windows were stripped and refurbished, and the front & rear screens were removed and refitted as the bonding had failed. Generally a full tidy up of the body of the car was taken, repairing original parts and fitting them up correctly, with various missing parts added. The air-conditioning was already part removed so the condenser on front of the radiator was also removed. It is simple to refit the air-conditioning. A rear beam for full harness seat belts was made up and fitted to the 'C' pillar factory mounts. A speedometer was fitted in place of the glove-box so as to be better accessible to the navigator, and the original was blanked off. Fabric covered front seats were fitted to provide better support, and full harness eat belts were fitted. The paintwork was touched up and 'T' cut with significant improvement. The under-bonnet area of the car was emptied completely, and an inspection of the front subframe mountings found the expected weld cracking. This was all re-welded, including additional welds to the later production standard. The gearbox was inspected, found to be first class, and the half axles were removed and the bearings check tightened. New seals were fitted to the front brake callipers. The engine was stripped as it was out of the car and needed to have solid exhaust valves fitted. Inspection showed it to be in very good basic order. The pistons rings & liners were as new, but there was minor wear in the bearings due to extended cranking (from the starting problem). These were replaced, the engine was re-built with a new rear timing chain, the modified rear timing chain curved fixed limiter and all other possible production line modifications as well as the exotic metal solid exhaust valves. A modified water-pump turbine with a ceramic seal face was also fitted. The transmission was reassembled and refitted to the car with careful inspection of all parts and replacement of any suspect items. The driveshafts were stripped & cleaned. The car was then extensively test driven to everyone's satisfaction. A roll limiter was fitted to the front suspension in addition to the roll bar, and the suspension spheres at the front were replaced with ones with stiffer damping. The car was then entered into the rally, and driven to the start. The car completed in a fault free manner apart from one driveshaft which was replaced on day one as a precaution, and it remains in a ready to go condition, having completed about 3000 miles after the above work. The driver in the Tour Auto, Bob Linwood was very complementary about the performance provided by the engine and the 'roadability' of the car, for instance taking 30 seconds off a well driven Ferrari on a 4Km special stage! Enhanced with much bright work and “middle-aged spread” the XK150 was deemed the most comfortable and sophisticated XK of all and may even be called practical: the wing line which had undulated so dramatically in early XK’s was straightened, the bonnet widened, much chrome added and a one piece windscreen fitted. How sophisticated it was with disc brakes and the 4HA axles.
This fine example of the 3.4 “S” sports the straight port cylinder head, high compression pistons and triple SU carburettors raising the power output to a claimed 250bhp. A rare beast, as only 19 r.h.d. models were manufactured, it is unlikely that more than several remain in existence of which this must rank as the most beautiful? The power is transmitted through a Moss 4-speed gearbox with overdrive which propels the car to 60mph in a very respectable 7.3secs and maximum speed of 136mph.
First owned by Victor Lazlo, the singer, it has been driven by many illustrious luminaries including Christine Keeler (of Profumo fame) who loved to drive round London with the hood down! It moved to snowbound Scotland in 1970 until eventually in 1983 it found its way to South Africa. Driven around the Eastern Cape by Ian Mcnee until going into “dry dock” for a nut & bolt restoration, many years passed before the current owner acquired the “nearly-finished product” and instructed Jaguar Classic Restorations to start from scratch!
Fine Blast of Philippi was appointed re-fabricator and body builder, and after 6 months JCR jigged up for a complete nut & bolt restoration.
In this Industry, periods of 12 years and more are quite common for full rebuilds but JCR were able to finish the work in only 3½ years: an incredible feat. The interior trim and hood were imported from Suffolk & Turley in the UK and fitted by Farouk’s Autotrim in Cape Town.
Sympathetic upgrades include electric cooling for African conditions, a wood rim steering wheel and sophisticated sound system for the owner!
Jaguar Classic Restorations (Cape) are perhaps the best known Jaguar specialist restorers in South Africa concentrating on the 25 year period from 1948-1973: that of the Marks, XK’s & E-types. They are particularly acknowledged for their meticulous attention to detail.

1972 - Supplied to hotelier Alberto Silvera in Port au Prince, Haiti. According to a US source a mechanic who worked at what is now Shelton Ferrari in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida used to pop over to service it in the 70s every now and then. Alberto would pick him up at the airport and put him up in a first-class suite at his El Rancho Hotel until the work was done. As you might therefore expect, servicing proceeded slowly. At the time he also owned an orange LP400 no.1120056 which now belongs to a US collector (ex-Winston Goodfellow car).
Rumoured to have been sold to Haitian ruler 'Baby Doc' Duvalier.
1980s - Rumoured to have traded for a very high price to French consortium, possibly also involving English dealer.
1990s - In France.
1996 - Sold at Poulain auction by Paris dealer Bolognini,

2002 - In Japan. Import papers show 'Miura SV Jota'. Car is road registered.
The LAMBORGHINI REGISTRY entry:
Chassis #4990 was sold in April 1972 to Alberto Silvera of Port au Prince, Haiti. It was delivered with a single windscreen wiper and painted metallic red with a black interior. This car was previously located in Paris and had been repainted in Rossa Corsa. It now resides in Japan.
In 1977, Lamborghini Club member Michael Stevenson of Decatur, Georgia met up with Alberto Silveira at the El Rancho Hotel in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti, where Silveira showed him the SVJ #990. Silveira allowed Stevenson to sit in it and start it up whilst demonstrating it to him. According to Stevenson, "Alberto is a delightful guy . . . . the day I saw #4990, his wife had just creased the nose a bit by backing her Corniche into it. Alberto is a long time personal friend of Ferruccio and I understand is not permitted to sell the car to anyone other than back to Ferruccio . . . " Stevenson stated that he wondered if the SVJ had ever been in top gear on the island of Haiti. "The country cannot have more than 60 miles of paved roads!" Stevenson remembers the car as a metallic rose red, silver sills & wheels, black interior, chrome mirrors, lots of rivets, single wiper, chin spoiler, and a very loud exhaust system.
After its 1997 restoration in Japan, 4990 is street-registered there. 2003 March - #4990 in superb restored condition. Non-original red with cream leather and black suede (or 'mousehair') dash, gold sills and wheels. Chrome "notice-me" rivets galore and chrome GTO headlight style surrounds both not original. Quad exhaust system appears chrome too or at the very least polished. Larger Countach-size single panto wiper installed (in Haiti it had the original smaller item as per #4934 and #5090). "Jota" script added at rear. The only SVJ supplied with this item was #4860, the last "works" car completed in April 1973"
The MIURA SV entry Joseph Sackey:
"At least 5 Miuras were converted or modified by the works into the aforementioned SVJ's during SV production (4934, 4990, 5100, 5090, 4860). Although it has been claimed that just 4 SVJ's were built during this period, that assertion is made by an individual who believes that Miura production ended in January 1973 (for reasons one can only presume). This claim is simply incorrect, as SV production did not slowly come to an end till October 1973, clearly proving also that the 5th and final SVJ (4860, April 1973) was completed within the production period. This last SVJ had earlier been delivered as an SV then returned for the Jota treatment towards the end of Miura production, but that fact hardly takes away from its true works-built provenance (any suggestion otherwise is simply splitting hairs...), and it carries the uniqueness of being the very last SVJ built during Miura production. It is worth noting that there is in fact a 6th SVJ (4892), carrying factory issued documentation that clarifies its works SVJ conversion/modification within the period. Just because a copy of this document does not appear neatly filed away in the factory's archives today, does not mean this is not a period works-built SVJ. Per the proviso as stated above, the factory's records are far from definitive... How many period SVJs were actually made by the works?...it will always be safe to say that "at least 5" SVJs were produced not only because this has become accepted by all that are knowledgeable with the subject, but, because this is already proven correct.
No matter what SVJ mythology will have you believe: SVJs basically have standard SV mechanicals. The bolting-on of straight-through exhaust pipes, or the addition of an extra fuel pump does not alter the car's basic mechanical specification, and it certainly does not enhance performance. Of course, the SVJs would have been better fettled (than a production SV) and mildly tuned before they left the factory, but the basic mechanical specification was the same as that of a late SV. Close inspection of 2 SVJs in recent times (4934 & 5090) revealed them to be, in all practicality, identical to each other in mechanical specification, and the same as a wet sump SV. Recent road tests on both the above-mentioned cars showed no more performance than that of a normal SV, with normal Miura 'maladies' apparent in both cars. The SVJ is essentially a cosmetically-modified SV, done by the works. Even then, some of the cosmetics such as the brake vents are 'dummies', completely without proper ducting
One SVJ (5100) is claimed to have had a dry sump oiling system set up by the works from new, a device that would be of benefit to the driver only if the car was used on the racetrack regularly (unlikely) and offers no performance enhancement on the street whatsoever. It should be noted that no period factory paperwork that definitively proves that the system was installed at the very point of production has ever been produced, and, just as in the case of most Jota-modified SVs, it is more likely that the system was installed post-production. Again, basic performance would be the same as that of any Miura SV that operates with a dry sump system".

The car was delivered new to ChCh and was bodied there by Johnson and Smith in the 3-door style common with these cars with right hand gearchanges. Everything has been rebuilt, restored, replaced, renewed or reconditioned. The engine starts on the button with absolutely no smoke and whopping oil pressure , the clutch and gearchange perfect , and the brakes powerful ( careful not to lock the wheels in the wet though ! ). The magneto has been swapped for distributer for reliability, but of course is included with the other boxes of spares should someone want to re-instate. A hidden killswitch ensures security and safety.

This is a useable vintage , not a garage queen. That said , it is almost perfect. The only obvious faults being paint rubs where the side curtains have worn the enamel of the paint in places. The car has full wet weather gear . It also has a new hoodbag and headlight covers . The windscreen folds flat for that true ‘flies-in-the-mouth’ feeling. She will cruise at 75kmh easy ( just remember rear brakes only ! ) with a top speed of around 85kmh. Gated gearchange just like a Ferrari ! Heel-toeing becomes a bit of an art with the centre throttle , but once mastered , silent gearchanges are great fun ! The Swallow company was started in 1922 by William Lyons and William Walmsley building motorbike sidecars and after 1927 car bodies for many makes including Austin 7's. The first SS cars were produced in 1931 using mostly mechanical components supplied by the Standard Motor Company.The famous SS or Swallow Sport was built with a special low slung chassis with a 2 litre or a 2.5 litre side valve 6 cylinder engine. Available in 3 body styles, a 4 seater Tourer, Sedan or the rare Airline coupe body. The Jaguar name was not used until after 1936. Only 4,200 SS cars were produced.
This exceptionally rare 1935 SS Airline Coupe is the upgraded Second Series with twin SU Carburettors and high lift camshaft. This car was sold new in Derby, UK to Mr B. Jobson in May 1935, we believe it came to Australia in 1937, owned by the late Jack Jeffries until the early 40s, restored by Ron Campbell who owned it for over 20 years. it passed on to Bryson Industries who used it for promotional purposes (Bryson were the Australian Jaguar Distributors), the Airline has been part of the Rainsford family collection since 1978.

Australia. How it came to SA I still trying to ascertain, however it
turned up in SA in the late 70's when the car was owned by the ex
Bugatti racing driver of the 1950's, Pierre Kelfkens. Pierre was also
one of the founder members of SEFAC (South African Ferrari owners club)
and he owned 11 Ferrari's in his time.
In about 1982 he was killed in a motor car accident and in 1984 the
present owner's father acquired the car from Pierre's widow, Marie, the
mileage was then 46,000 miles.
The car was used by the family on many Ferrari occasions, breakfast runs
and concourse's.
The car has been regularly serviced and maintained since the owner's
family acquired the car in 1984, oil and filters changed every 5000
